“Daybreak” is the sister painting to “Maude.” It is called “Daybreak” because I wanted it to embody the same qualities and feelings as Maude’s portrait does — hope, new beginnings, and resilience. For the longest time, I was going to call it “Dawn,” but then it “dawned” (lol) on me that the painting is less like night slowly creeping into day, and more like the morning sun bursting forth in newness and light.
